Summer Goals

This will be a summer like none other! The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected all of us and will be keeping us close to home this summer.

The first days of June are a great time to reassess your goals for the season. A minor procedure has me focusing on relaxing a bit more. This is most definitely a good thing to focus on with all that is going on in the world right now.

Switching up your fitness routine is always a good idea this time of year. There are so many ways to stay active outside and so many extra chores that I am definitely ok with lightening up my workouts a bit as long as I am getting lots of exercise.

Hydrating is a big one. During the winter months, I really have trouble getting enough water. As a coffee lover, I would always prefer a hot drink to a cold glass of water. Now that the warmer months have arrived it is much easier to drink it up. My lovely family even got me an insulated cup for Mother’s Day to keep my water chilled.

To go along with my goal of relaxing, now is a great time to learn something new. This will be a great time to take an online course (because I can do it poolside!) and gain some new knowledge to pass on to personal training clients.

Sleep is always a big one for me. I have a mind that has trouble slowing down and have never been a great sleeper. So getting to bed early is a must, as is unplugging and having a relaxing bedtime routine including stretching and reading a book.

We don’t have a lot of room in our yard but we have made room for a couple of small vegetable gardens. Growing our own food is one of the best ways to eat during the summer months in Canada. There is nothing quite like the taste of garden fresh tomatoes or cucumbers to help keep you on track with your nutrition goals.

Setting realistic goals is extremely important. If you know that you will be busier with outdoor chores and activities, then plan on less gym workouts. If you plan on having dinner or drinks with friends on Fridays, then work that into your nutrition plan for the week. If your goals are attainable, you will have less of a chance of losing motivation.

So enjoy your summer at home and make the most of it!
